Grade 1

The following documents are worksheets that will be used at some point during the unit:

• This document will be used for the students to play the matching game. The students will need to cut the pieces apart, mix them up, and then match the printed name to the animal.

• This worksheet will be used after the students finish exploring the virtual farm.

Grade 7

The following documents and links will be used throughout the unit:

Story Map

• Students should use this story map when discussing the elements of the story in their small groups.

• This document contains the vocabulary activities that will be completed throughout the unit.

• Students will complete these questions as they read the novel and work through the unit.

• Selecting Nonfiction Resources provides a link for students to view a short interactive slide show that teaches how to select appropriate print resources. Students can fill out the worksheet as they watch the video.

Nonfiction Evaluation Form by ReadWriteThink

• This form can be used when the students are evaluating appropriate print resources.

• Evaluating Electronic Resources is a worksheet that uses the five w's (who, what, when, where, why) to help students evaluate websites for use in research.

MidLink's Evaluation Form

• This website is an excellent form for students to use when trying to decide the best possible sites to use for information. Students could choose to use this form instead of the 5 w's form.

Works Cited Help

• This site is Purdue's Online Writing Lab. Students can consult this website to get help when creating their bibliography page.

Citing from Student Research Center

• This website provides a tutorial on how to cite articles from the Student Research Center database. Even if students use other databases to get information the steps to citing articles should be similar.
